New York Mets fans fired up to attend Tuesday night’s Marlon Byrd T-shirt night might end up a little disappointed when the outfielder isn’t in the lineup … and when they don’t get a Marlon Byrd “Let it fly” T.
Turns out the Mets traded Byrd to the playoff-contending Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday afternoon. A few hours after the deal, the team’s website was still promoting the giveaway.
However, by 4 p.m. ET, the promotion, which included a picture (below) of front-and-back views of the T-shirt, was removed.

A call to the Mets’ box office confirmed the team won’t be handing out the T-shirts, but the club will give out leftover T-shirts from previous promotions from this season.
The Pirates (76-54), looking to end a streak of below-.500 seasons and make the playoffs for the first time since 1993, hope Byrd can help them fly into the postseason. He has been hot since the All-Star break, hitting .311 with six homers and 20 RBI in his last 38 games. For the season, Byrd is hitting .285 with 21 homers and 71 RBI.
But meanwhile, what are the Mets going to do with the “Let it fly” T-shirts? Hopefully, donate them to people in need.
