SANAA, Yemen – Yemeni officials say the head of the Gulf Cooperation Council has visited President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi in a show of support for the embattled leader against Shiite rebels who have seized the capital.
Top aides to Hadi say GCC Secretary General Abdullatif al-Zayani visited him Wednesday in the southern city of Aden, where he has been based since fleeing Sanaa earlier this month. They spoke anonymously because they were not authorized to speak to the press.
The rebels, known as Houthis, on Tuesday said Hadi was “wanted for justice,” and warned foreign diplomats as well as state employees against dealing with him.
The GCC includes Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and Oman.
